Most people afflicted with butt acne aren’t even aware that they have the issue until it gets…complicated – meaning, they either become cystic(fluid-filled) or painful. The fact is that acne and pimples are a part of everyone’s life at some point and you’re likely to find them on your face, your shoulders and even on your back. And, yes, your butt.
Causes of “Butt Acne”

Oily skin: Some people are prone to body acne if they have overactive sebaceous glands. This condition can be exacerbated if you don’t pay enough attention to exfoliating your entire body, including areas like the buttocks, which are important to exfoliate because there can be an over-proliferation of dead skin cells there.

The Gym?: Gym heads beware – sweat, friction caused by tight-fitting clothing, and undergarments made of non-breathable material are all major contributors to butt acne.

Fabrics: If you’re not an avid gym-goer, you’re not off the hook – all of these factors still apply and it’s worth noting that fabrics such as nylon and polyester can hold moisture against the skin and irritate hair follicles.

Hot tubs!: Oh yeah, stay away from dirty hot tubs/saunas/pools…hot tub folliculitis (caused by contaminated water) is NOT a problem that you want.
What can you do?
Anyone can get a butt breakout. While you can’t always prevent “butt acne”, there are some things you can do to make them less likely to pop up:

Avoid wearing restrictive clothing. Wear breathable material on your butt, such as cotton underwear and loose pants or shorts.

Use a salicylic acid- or benzoyl peroxide-based body cleanser. This works best for inflamed bumps like folliculitis. Many over-the-counter options are available.

Shower after you sweat. Sweat can irritate the hair follicles and make your skin more prone to breakouts. Avoid keeping your sweaty workout clothes on and shower as soon as you can.
Worst Case Scenario?

Getting body treatments such as body facials and body peels will help with getting rid of acne—seek out a licensed esthetician to do this, as they will know the best products and applications for the best effect.
If you’re someone who consistently ruptures their skin in an effort to “pop” or get rid of acne, know that you are at risk of scarring your skin and introducing infection. Be sure to see a licensed professional for proper treatments if required.
