As the weather cools down and we say goodbye to summer, it’s time to change up our skincare routine. Just as we need to change our wardrobe with the seasons, our skin also needs special care and attention as the temperature and humidity levels drop.
Here are 9 tips to help you achieve and maintain healthy skin this fall.

1. Exfoliate weekly. As dead skin cells build up on the surface of our skin, they can leave us looking dull and lifeless. Combat this by exfoliating your skin once or twice a week with a gentle scrub or exfoliating cleanser. This will slough off any dead skin cells and leave your skin looking fresh and radiant.

2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! As the weather gets colder and the air gets drier, it’s important to make sure you’re moisturizing your skin regularly. Look for a moisturizer that suits your skin type (oily, dry, combination, etc.) and apply it after cleansing and before applying makeup. You may even want to consider using a heavier cream or ointment at night to really give your skin some extra hydration while you sleep.

3. Don’t forget about your lips! The cold weather can be tough on our lips, leaving them chapped and cracked. Make sure you’re using a lip balm or Chapstick with SPF to protect your lips from the sun and the elements. And if your lips are already feeling dry and irritated, look for a lip balm that contains hydrating ingredients like shea butter or glycerin.

4. Reduce stress levels. Stress can wreak havoc on our bodies, including our skin! If you’re feeling stressed out, take some time for yourself to relax and de-stress—whether it’s reading a book, taking a bath, or taking a yoga class. Reducing stress will help improve both your physical and mental health this fall (and all year long)!

5. Use a face serum. Face serums are packed with nutrients and antioxidants that penetrate deep into the skin to provide lasting hydration. Add a face serum to your skincare routine for an extra boost of hydration this fall!

6. Incorporate hydrating foods into your diet. Believe it or not, what we eat can have a big impact on our skin’s health! Incorporate foods like avocados, fatty fish, sweet potatoes, and nuts into your diet for an extra dose of hydration from within.

7. Don’t forget the SPF! Just because the weather is cooling down doesn’t mean the sun’s UV rays are any less harmful. In fact, they can be just as damaging in the fall and winter months! Make sure to apply SPF every day, even if you’re not spending time outdoors.

8. Avoid hot showers. It may feel good to take a steaming hot shower when it’s chilly outside but hot water can strip away natural oils from our skin, leaving it feeling dry and irritated. Stick to lukewarm water instead, and try not to stay in the shower for too long.

9. Invest in a humidifier. If you live in a climate with very dry air consider investing in a humidifier for your home. This will help add moisture back into the air, which will in turn help keep your skin hydrated .
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to having healthy, happy skin all season long! Do you have any favorite tips for transitioning your skincare routine from summer to fall? Share them with us in the comments below !
